FINGAL FORAGE- A WORLD OCEAN’S DAY AMAZING RACE!

Join us for an educational adventure! An Amazing Race style conservation scavenger hunt, happening on the Beach and park land in Fingal Bay, recurring as a very special event only when World Ocean Day falls on the weekend. Families, friends or groups race against the clock completing a wide range of ocean related activities. This race is not so much an athletic event, more of fun day out challenging the groups mind as they encounter the various activities along the way. Aimed at adults and children (under adult supervision) alike, come together while we celebrate and educate this important World Oceans Day.

“We celebrate World Oceans Day to remind everyone of the major role the oceans have in everyday life. They are the lungs of our planet, providing most of the oxygen we breathe. The purpose of the Day is to inform the public of the impact of human actions on the ocean, develop a worldwide movement of citizens for the ocean, and mobilize and unite the world’s population on a project for the sustainable management of the world’s oceans. They are a major source of food and medicines and a critical part of the biosphere. In the end, it is a day to celebrate together the beauty, the wealth and the promise of the ocean.”  – United Nations

AN EDUCATIONAL ADVENTURE

The aim is to raise awareness about different ways to help save the Ocean with a fun-filled amazing race style event.

The event will require participants to walk down the beach in Fingal Bay, carrying out various tasks in the booklet whilst collecting rubbish along the way to turn in for big points at the end

Each station will have different fun activities, such as ocean trivia, puzzles, crafts, and more clues.

The event should take participants 1.5 hours to complete however they will be racing against their own clock, not against each other (it’s not a running race- they will need to be walking and paying attention to their surroundings)

PREVIOUS YEARS EVENT & RESULTS

Our Fingal Forage event in 2019 was a huge success with an amazing turnout of 26 volunteers from 7 different conservation organisations including Sea Shelter, Irukandji Shark & Ray Encounters, OCCI Ocean & Coastal Care Initiative, Take 3 For the Sea, Kelpies Clean Up, the Marine Parks Association and Plastic Free Port Stephens!

Our fantastic volunteers spent the day helping and educating a massive 139 visitors who all came together for World Oceans Day and learnt all the various ways we can help protect the ocean!
